One question, answered honestly

whatsmygeneration.com exists to answer “what generation am I?” the moment you type a year, without making you scan a table, without a quiz that takes four screens, and without pretending the boundaries are sharper than they are.

Which ranges, and why

The generation ranges follow the Pew Research Center wherever Pew has defined one: Greatest (1901 to 1927), Silent (1928 to 1945), Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964), Generation X (1965 to 1980), Millennials (1981 to 1996) and Generation Z (1997 to 2012). Pew is the reference most newsrooms use, and it explains its reasoning in public. For Generation Alpha (2013 to 2024) and Generation Beta (2025 onward) there is no Pew definition, so the site uses the most common proposed ranges and labels them as debated and emerging on every result.

Micro-generations, Xennials (1977 to 1983) and Zillennials (1993 to 1998), are shown as an additional identity with the ranges most commonly cited. They are not official, and the site never claims they are. Beyond those, any year in the first or last two years of a generation gets a cusp note naming the neighbour, because “I never felt like a real Millennial” is half of why people search this in the first place.
